Who we are
ChatterBox Projects is a highly regarded specialist community engagement consultancy that brings creativity, inclusivity and strategic insight to every project. Since 2013, we have delivered hundreds of engagement processes across Victoria, partnering with local and state government agencies, community organisations, and the education and retail sectors.

We are recognised as leaders in place-based engagement, designing and delivering placed based pop-ups that take conversations directly into the community. Our work is supported by purpose-built engagement trailers, the only ones of their kind in Australia, enabling highly visible, accessible and inclusive engagement experiences that reach people who rarely participate in traditional consultation processes.

At the heart of our practice is an unwavering people-centred approach. We are skilled at connecting with individuals and groups from all walks of life and adapting our approach in real time to suit different needs, cultures, communication styles and levels of confidence.

Whether we are speaking one-on-one at a pop-up, facilitating a small group workshop, or leading a large deliberative panel, we meet people where they are, emotionally, culturally and practically.

Alongside our place-based expertise, we have extensive experience in deliberative engagement, co-design and complex facilitation. We have designed and facilitated numerous deliberative panels, community reference groups, multi-stage co-design workshops and strategic planning processes. Our facilitators are highly skilled at:
-
creating safe, respectful spaces for discussion
-
explaining complex or contested issues in plain language
-
managing strong or opposing views with care and neutrality
-
supporting participants to move from individual perspectives to shared, informed recommendations
Our practice is grounded in the Engagement Institute (formerly IAP2) values of influence, inclusion, transparency and respect, and we place strong emphasis on fairness, clarity and integrity throughout every process.

Our team is made up of senior professionals with backgrounds across local and state government, arts and cultural planning, communications, urban planning and facilitation. We are curious, practical and deeply people-focused, and we bring warmth, professionalism and empathy to every interaction.

Every team member holds the Certificate of Engagement or Advanced Certificate in Engagement from the Engagement Institute and maintains a current Working with Children Check.

We do not offer cookie-cutter solutions. Every engagement is tailored, every method chosen with care, and every voice treated with respect. Whether facilitating complex deliberative workshops or capturing feedback through vibrant inclusive place-based pop-ups, we ensure each process is clear, inclusive and genuinely impactful from start to finish.

The Team
Sam Walsh
Owner/Director

Sam created ChatterBox Projects back in 2013 after realising engagement was going online and a big part of the community were missing out on influencing decisions that affected them as online wasn't accessible for many.
It started with building just one pop-up engagement trailer to take engagement to the streets, however, engagement planning, facilitation, issues management and data analysis and reporting is just as much a part of the business as the engagement trailers are.
Sam has extensive knowledge and experience in community engagement strategy, planning and delivery, workshop design and facilitation, development of engagement methods and tools, engagement training, stakeholder engagement and management, major projects management, place making, activations, arts and culture and leisure service planning.
Up until 2015, Sam worked within the Local Government and not for profit sector for 25 years in a range of positions, all requiring extensive engagement with communities to develop high level policies, programs and services.
